Our favourite golf resorts in Scotland & England

It’s safe to say this week has been absolute heaven if you’re a golf fan! We know it’s not everyone’s cup of “tee” but we just couldn’t let The 148th Open at Royal Portrush pass without talking about our absolute favourite golf resorts and hotels in Scotland and England. The good news for the non-golf fans is our top picks are stunning with some of the best spas in the country, so it’s win-win if your other half wants to spend a few hours on the golf course. Cliché we know, but really who doesn’t love a gorgeous hotel and me time! Plus, the best news is when you take your car there are no extra charges for your golf clubs.

1.Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club

This one could be described as the best of both worlds! Set in 200 acres of scenic parkland The Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club is a short drive from Manchester City Centre. The Golf Club has a PGA Championship course featuring a unique design, beautiful views and a challenging par of 71. The Spa at Worsley Park is open daily, but just make sure you book your treatment time in advance! Find out more here.

2. Westerwood Spa & Golf Resort

Take the car from Belfast to Cairnryan, and enjoy a leisurely drive to the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Westerwood Spa & Golf Resort. It’s the scenery that makes the 18 hole, par 71 course that little bit extra special, with many of the holes overlooking the Kilsyth and Campsie Hills. The course was designed by Seve Ballesteros and Dave Thomas, and is sprinkled with bunkers and water. So a challenge for even the most experienced golfers! There’s also an indulgent and luxurious spa with an amazing menu of treatments, including a couple especially relaxing after a day on the green. Find out more here.

3. Macdonald Cardrona Hotel

This is the second course on our list designed by renowned architect Dave Thomas! With a par of 72 and the course measuring 7010 yards it attracts players from all over the world. They’ve also taken steps to protect the wildlife who live in the beautiful surroundings, and have even been awarded the Scottish Award for Environmental Excellence in Golf.  The spa is tranquil with an extensive list of treatments to choose from. Find out more here.

4. Glenapp Castle

Glenapp Castle is the closest to Cairnryan Port in our top 5 – a mere 17 minutes door to door! It really is something special, and it would want to be considering it just won Independent Hotel of The Year. Ok, so this one is a little bit different in that it doesn’t have a golf course or spa on the grounds, but (hear us out!) there are four iconic championship courses within an hour of the hotel. Royal Troon, Prestwick, Western Gailes and Turnberry. Just chat to the concierge about arranging your tee times. Seven minutes from the castle is the state of the art Peebles Spa. Find out more here.

5. Trump Turnberry A Luxury Collection Resort

Take a left when you leave the port and enjoy a stunning coastal view all the way to Trump Turnberry in Ayr. The drive is a leisurely 45 minutes, but if we’re honest we’d drive a lot further to experience this! Trump Turnberry is home to not 1, not 2 but 3 golf courses! Granted The Arran is a 9 hole executive course, but it’s the perfect way for beginners to experience Trump Turnberry. The Ailsa is the home of four Open Championships, whilst King Robert The Bruce is a newer addition to the resort. There’s also an indulgent and luxurious spa. Find out more here.

All of these golfing breaks can be booked as a Stena Line Holiday. This means you’ll get the lowest price combined when you book your ferry & golf resort or hotel together. Take the car from Belfast to Cairnryan or Belfast to Liverpool and there’s no need to worry about any pesky baggage fees when you take your clubs! Click here to find out more.
