There is no better time to visit a small, walkable city like Dublin than at Christmas.

Soak up the festive atmosphere in historic Temple Bar. Stroll down Grafton Street adorned with lights and decorated windows. Feeling chilly? Nip into a cosy pub, with an open fire for a hot drink to warm up.

Scrooge himself, couldn’t fail to be enchanted by Christmas in Dublin.

If you have some Christmas shopping to do, there are plenty of Dublin Christmas markets and fairs to pick up a unique, often handmade, gift for someone special. Here are five happening in locations across the city – which one will you visit?

Support local, independent Irish craftspeople by visiting this extensive Christmas market. With over 100 stalls, this Christmas cracker is sure to be a hub of activity. It’s the place to go if you are looking for unique gifts for family and friends, including craft and design, vintage or upcycled items.

In even better news, it’s only a stone’s throw from Dublin port in the Point Square so it’s perfect if you are on a day trip to Dublin.

2. Contemporary Art and Design Fair

If contemporary art and design are your thing, make sure you pay a visit to ‘The Gifted Fair’ in the RDS, not far from Dublin city centre. With thousands of gift ideas, you may get all your shopping done in one place.

Farmleigh House in Dublin’s Phoenix Park was once home to members of the Guinness family. Now Ireland’s official state guest house, it hosted Queen Elizabeth II on her state visit to Ireland in 2013, and holds an annual Christmas market. It’s a wonderful place to browse the stalls, enjoying a warm drink surrounded by almost 2,000 acres of beautiful parkland with its own herd of fallow deer, only a stone’s throw from the city centre.
